In this month's law lab webinar, Anna Reid, Senior Associate in our employment team, discussed probationary periods.
Under the Employment Rights Act 2025, the qualifying period for ordinary unfair dismissal claims will reduce from two years to six months. In addition, the cap on the compensatory award for unfair dismissal will be removed, meaning the stakes for unfair dismissal claims will be higher.
It is therefore crucial that employers make proper use of probationary periods to monitor employees and manage any performance or other concerns effectively. During the webinar, Anna shared her top tips on probationary periods to help employers prepare for the upcoming changes.
In addition, Cara Low, Associate in our employment team, shared our practical tips from recent case law and key legislative updates.
If you missed the live webinar, listen to the recording below to learn more on how this legislation will implement some of the most widespread reforms to employment law in decades.
If you would like to discuss any of the issues raised during the session, please get in touch with our employment team, or visit our Employment Rights Act 2025 Hub to keep up to date with changes.
