The concept of solar power in Scotland is often met with a raised eyebrow and quips about our beautiful country’s weather.  But, looking beyond the cynicism, the reality is this – it does work, and there are opportunities (as highlighted to me as I attended Scottish Renewables’ inaugural solar conference and exhibition on Tuesday this week).

Blue cheese targeted in fatal E.coli outbreak

A child in Scotland has died as a result of an outbreak of harmful bacteria E.coli O157, a leading cause of food-borne illness which can be particularly dangerous for those with weaker immune systems. In total 20 individual cases of illness resulting from the outbreak were confirmed in July - 11 required hospital treatment. A multi-agency Incident Management Team (IMT) chaired by Health Protection Scotland and including Food Standards Scotland (FSS) is investigating the outbreak.

Edinburgh & South East Scotland City Region Deal – Unlocking Potential

It was no surprise to note the reference by CBI’s Carolyn Fairburn to the opportunities opened up by City Deals in her address to the CBI Scotland annual dinner last week. Among the uncertainties and investment caution created by Brexit, the prospect of major investment through the emerging City Deals (or, as they are now more commonly labelled, City Region Deals) across Scotland represents a bright beacon of hope.
