Andrew is a partner in our Dispute Resolution team. He specialises in shipping & maritime law, insurance coverage disputes and the defence of personal injury and other reparation claims.  

  • Shipping & Maritime law. He is one Scotland’s leading shipping & maritime lawyers. He acts for the majority of P&I Clubs with risks in Scotland including in some of the highest profile and complex disputes. He is an experienced investigator of marine incidents and in representing clients in MCA and MAIB investigations and any subsequent prosecutions. This work extends to claims in ports and harbours. Andrew is also experienced in collision, salvage and cargo claims and in ship arrest.

  • Insurance coverage disputes. He advises businesses on disputes with their insurers. He has experience of challenging insurers’ decisions in litigation and at arbitration with a strong track record.

  • Personal injury defence. Andrew leads the team defending personal injury and occupational disease claims for corporates - from slips and trips to fatalities and catastrophic injury claims. 

He is the only lawyer in Scotland ranked by the legal directories in each of shipping law, insurance law and personal injury (defence). He holds a post graduate diploma in Maritime Law from the Lloyds Maritime Academy and sits on the Law Society of Scotland Sub Committee for maritime law matters. He has chaired the Occupational Disease Sub Committee for the Forum of Insurance Lawyers (FOIL) for around 10 years
