Alan is the sector lead in our rural land & natural capital team, working closely with our renewables team. With over 10 years’ experience, he has a broad rural practice, including significant experience in landed estate conveyancing and management, fishings and sportings. He has a particular focus on rural development, including renewable energy projects, housebuilding development, natural capital projects (including carbon credit projects) and other diversification schemes. Alan also has extensive experience advising landowners and developers on the implications of agricultural tenancies for development.

Joining our team in January 2019 from a background in rural property, Alan spent over six years undertaking development work in our housebuilding and renewables teams, before returning to our rural land & natural capital team in April 2025. Alan acts for landowners and developers in all aspects of land acquisition, disposal, and development origination, including in particular: the completion of option agreements and leases for a range of renewable energy technologies (including onshore wind, battery storage and solar PV), the assembly of land rights for development, the acquisition and disposal of rural farm and estate land for agricultural purposes, natural capital purposes and development, advising on the development impacts of agricultural tenancies and crofting; and general rural property matters such as salmon fishings. Alan regularly advises clients in the ever-growing natural capital space including, in particular, in connection with woodland carbon credit schemes.
