This briefing note contains all of the information contained in our updates on the Government guidance to date and since the last version of our briefing note (on 4 May), this note has been updated to include the following information from the Chancellor’s announcement in Parliament on 12 May:-
- the Scheme will continue in its current form with no changes until the end of July;
- the Scheme will continue from August until the end of October but employers will be able to return furloughed workers on a part-time basis;
- the overall level of support that workers can expect to receive whilst furloughed will not change. Workers will, through the combined efforts of the Government and employers, continue to receive the same level of support as they do now, at 80% of their salary, up to £2,500;
- full details of the changes to the Scheme which will apply from August will be made available by the end of May.
We have updated the section “What key points do we know about the Scheme” below to reflect the Chancellor’s announcement on 12 May. The remainder of the document details how the Scheme will work until the end of July. Once we know more details about how the Scheme will operate from August until the end of October, this briefing note will be updated fully.
