Colin specialises in intellectual property and competition law. After qualifying, Colin spent 8 years in London at two City firms where he gained significant experience in both areas before returning to Scotland. In competition law Colin has acted for a number of companies investigated by the EU and UK competition authorities in relation to alleged cartels in various sectors, including roofing, transport, logistics, utilities and dairy. This has included attending and advising on dawn raids and seeking leniency. He has also advised in relation to complaints to the CMA in connection with alleged abuses of a dominant position and on merger clearances from the CMA.
Colin advises on non-contentious aspects of intellectual property, particularly on licensing, collaboration, R&D, distribution and franchise agreements. His work includes advising on trade marks and brand protection; joint sharing and licensing of know-how, copyright and design rights. Colin has been accredited as a specialist in intellectual property by the Law Society of Scotland and is qualified under Scots and English law. He has given training to many organisations on intellectual property issues and is a tutor on commercial contracts and IP at the University of Glasgow.
