In 2014, the UK Government launched the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, recognising and rewarding UK employers for their support and commitment towards the defence community.

We are delighted to have received the Silver Employer Recognition Scheme Award this year in recognition of our efforts to become an armed forces friendly organisation for our employees and their families through inclusive recruitment and employment policies.

Our colleagues Anna Clark, Emma Smith and Alan Gibson, who is a member of the Army Reserves, all attended the award ceremony at the Great Hall of Edinburgh Castle, where they were presented the award by General Officer Scotland Major General Bill Wright CBE.

Alan Gibson said “The culture at Burness Paull gave me the confidence to fulfil a long term aspiration to join the Army Reserve when I felt the time was right for me – rather than worrying about when might be best for my employer. As well as being supportive of my decision, their flexibility around working hours and additional time off during basic training made it much easier to keep on top of my personal life and meant I could prioritise time off for rest.”
