Burness Paull have helped pro-bono partners The Lifescape Project create the first Rewilding Law Hub, a legal resource centre for those wanting to manage land in accordance with rewilding principles.

The Hub contains a variety of legal briefings on a wide range of issues relating to rewilding, and provides digestible information for non-lawyers who are looking for guidance on making their rewilding projects a success.

The Lifescape Project is a groundbreaking charity with a mission to “catalyse the creation, restoration and protection of wild landscapes”. Bringing together science, technology, law, economics and communications, they work to drive change, build support for rewilding and species reintroduction, and  utilise “natural assets” to achieve ESG and financial return benefits whilst improving ecological function to create wilder landscapes, and the Rewilding Law Hub will help disseminate their knowledge and experience with other individuals and organisations who share their ambitions.

Lindsay Wallace, Head of Sustainability at Burness Paull said: “We’re very proud of our ongoing partnership with The Lifescape Project, and have been able to utilise expertise from lawyers right across our firm on a pro-bono basis to help them as they continue their valuable work creating, restoring and protecting our natural landscapes. To be able to contribute to the Rewilding Law Hub chimes with our commitment to connect with our communities in a meaningful way and is a key part of our ESG roadmap, driving forward our sustainability efforts. I would encourage anyone with an interest in rewilding to make use of this informative new resource.”

Elsie Blackshaw-Crosby Managing Lawyer, The Lifescape Project said: “Burness Paull has provided us with invaluable support in delivering a joint project with Rewilding Britain which aims to help rewilding projects in Scotland to understand how different areas of law from public access to species reintroductions may apply to their activities. Burness Paull has undertaken the substantive research and drafting of these notes and the lawyers involved have shown real interest in and commitment to the work. A big thank you from the Lifescape Project to Burness Paull for making this project possible.
