Boardroom leaders from across the UK will gather in Edinburgh on Wed 22 May to discuss the impact of corporate governance on how companies will do businesses in the future.
Over 100 delegates will attend the 2019 Scottish conference of the ICSA: The Governance Institute, where the focus will be on the ‘governance of tomorrow’.
Executives from some of Scotland’s largest private and public sector employers will tackle the issue and high-profile speakers offering their views will include: Carolyn Jameson, former Chief Legal Officer and Company Secretary of Skyscanner, Shonaig Macpherson, Chairman of The Robertson Trust and Samantha Barber, Chairman for Corporate Governance and Responsibility at Iberdrola.
The event will cover a range of commercial and strategic issues currently on the agenda of company secretaries and the boards they work with.
Law firm Burness Paull, whose Head of Company Secretarial Services, Gary Gray, was recently elected chair of the ICSA Scotland Branch, will host the conference and helped to shape the agenda for it based on feedback from a wide range of industries.
“Business ethics and good governance have never been under more scrutiny,” explains Gary.
“The UK’s corporate governance framework provides a series of codes by which companies can adopt and implement effective measures of control. The strongest of such corporate governance and reporting requirements apply to publicly listed companies.
“With business integrity potentially having a direct impact on share prices it’s absolutely vital that boards have strong oversight and practical guidance on the codes they are subject to in their industries, and how it will affect the individuals responsible for managing companies.”
