November marks Men’s Health Month and at Burness Paull, a series of events and initiatives have been orchestrated across the firm aimed at championing the mental and physical wellbeing of our male employees.
Central to Men’s Health Month efforts is the resounding support for Movember, a leading charity helping men live happier, healthier, and longer lives. Movember stands with fathers, partners, brothers, and friends confronting significant physical or mental health challenges, actively working to dismantle the societal stigma associated with men's health. Their focus is on issues such as prostate and testicular cancer, as well as male suicide.
Our MoBros and MoSisters have actively participated in fundraising and awareness campaigns throughout November. Our MoBros have showcased some impressive moustaches - with handlebar moustaches proving popular this year! Supporting Movember extends beyond growing a moustache, with our MoSisters actively clocking up miles in support of the fundraising efforts. We want to congratulate them for collectively raising over £6000 for Movember, including a £1000 donation from the Burness Paull Foundation.
Throughout Men’s Health Month, we were delighted to host insightful sessions from James Wildsmith from Movember and Ruth Devlin from Let’s Talk Menopause. James’ session shed light on the work that Movember does to raise awareness of men’s health issues while Ruth’s session not only highlighted crucial red flag symptoms of men’s health but also discussed preventive measures while promoting overall health and wellbeing.
Across our Glasgow and Edinburgh offices, we hosted Movember drinks to encourage colleagues to get involved and donate to this worthy cause. Through our partnership with Street Soccer Scotland, some of our colleagues also took part in a weekly drop-in session in Glasgow. These sessions provide a safe space for men to openly discuss their mental health, followed by a friendly game of football to release tension.
As Men’s Health Month comes to an end, it’s important to sustain discussions around men’s health. As a firm, we remain dedicated to breaking down the stigma around this topic and supporting our colleagues through any challenges that they may be facing.
