We believe in life-embracers. Dream-chasers. Set-the-pacers.

Burness Paull is a top-tier commercial law firm. From our offices in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow, you will have the opportunity to work with clients not just elsewhere in the UK – but across the world. At the last count, we were advising clients in more than 60 jurisdictions.

Two things make us tick: delivering results and being easy to deal with.

We are looking for like-minded talent. Being sharp is a given. There are lots of bright law graduates out there. What we are looking for is people with a real passion for the job.

And in return, you’ll be provided with a top-tier traineeship which gives you exposure to clients and senior lawyers from the word “go”.

We believe this is what makes our trainees.

Burness Paull provides an environment where you feel like you belong and you can share that experience with everyone else

Our Culture

Stayer. Team-players. Find-a-wayers.

We enjoy working hard together and delivering a great service for our clients. The firm places high importance on a collaborative ethos, both in and out of the office. There are also plenty of opportunities to get to know your colleagues and have fun after you switch off your laptop.

Social events
To help encourage collaboration, you’ll be invited to a wide range of after-work events with other trainees and colleagues. We have a social committee that organises entertainment throughout the year, from our summer BBQ to our year-end party and more.

Responsible business
Responsible business lies at the heart of our decision making and is fundamental to our success as a leading law firm and a responsible employer.

We believe we have an obligation to put something back into our communities - and that’s what we have been doing for decades. We have made significant strides in transforming our graduate recruitment process to make it more sustainable, and through the Burness Paull Foundation the firm has supported over 300 charities, including our long standing partnership with Street Soccer Scotland, a truly inspirational organisation providing training and development opportunities for socially disadvantaged groups across Scotland.

We’re proud to be the first Scottish law firm to support The 93% Club as a corporate sponsor. The 93% Club strives to reshape industries where state-educated individuals have historically been underrepresented. By addressing barriers to social mobility and tackling class inequality across professional sectors in the UK, the club is dedicated to creating a fairer, more inclusive future for the next generation.

Innovation
We were proud to be the first official Innovation Partner of Scottish Ballet, with whom we have partnered since 2019. The partnership reflects the firm’s commitment to nurturing creativity and tackling problems from a fresh perspective; everyone has a voice and their contributions are encouraged. We also invest in emerging technologies like AI to help us harness innovation and deliver more value for clients.

Testimonials

We believe the most valuable endorsements come from those who have walked the walk, not just talked the talk.
