Parents returning to work after statutory leave eligible for furlough
The Government has confirmed that parents returning from maternity leave, paternity leave, adoption leave, shared parental leave and parental bereavement leave after 10th June can be furloughed.
This is an exception to the rule that workers had to be furloughed by 10th June to qualify for the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme and is welcome news for both parents and employers. This exception will only apply where the returner works for an employer who has previously furloughed employees. Further details will be included in the revised scheme guidance which is due to be published on Friday and we will provide another update at that time.
