Boundaries And Borders - Consultation On The South Of Scotland Enterprise Agency

The Scottish Government consultation document on the proposed new Enterprise Agency for the South of Scotland makes for interesting reading.

This is pitched very much as an “ask the locals” document – and with questions which (unless I’m being over-sensitive!) seem to have been deliberately designed to discourage contributions from the Central Belt or further afield.

Charity Trading - What Can We Learn From OSCR's New Guidance?

Just in case you missed it, OSCR have now published (as of end March this year), a guide on Charities and Trading.  I have been asked to speak on this topic on a number of occasions and it is a personal favourite – I like the positive aspect to it, as the focus is on what charities can do directly to raise funds and become more self-sufficient, as opposed to the somewhat fraught focus on grant funding cuts etc.

Governance Guiding Principles For Social Enterprises - The Magic Of Seven?

The document recently published by Senscot Legal (with the support of the Scottish Government) setting out “Governance Guiding Principles for Social Enterprises” reflects the increasing focus on governance within the third sector. Interestingly, seven seems to be the magic number for guidance of this kind – the Seven Principles of Public Life (otherwise referred to as the “Nolan principles”) immediately spring to mind, but the Charity Governance Code issued by the E&W charity sector last summer also sets out seven principles…..and so does this latest document.
