Arctic Winds Bring Plenty Of Cheer At Turbine Open Day

Arctic Winds Bring Plenty Of Cheer At Turbine Open Day

Last week I attended an open day showcasing a single-turbine wind project development on farmland at Dykehead, near Stonehouse, South Lanarkshire.  The development was constructed and is operated by our clients, Pure Renewable Energy Limited, this being their first completed project  north of the border. It is always satisfying to see the end result of a project no matter what size and it was clear all parties involved are delighted with the outcome of everyone’s hard work.

Despite the near-arctic conditions (the exhibition had to be moved from the planned marquee to the shelter of the landowner’s grain store) there was great interest in the turbine from locals, potential developers and other landowners considering similar schemes, and the interest in developing feed-in-tariff scale projects still appears high notwithstanding the recent changes in the tariff regime.  Also exhibiting at the event were the other companies involved in making the project happen, including turbine supplier EWT, civils contractor G2 Energy and insurers Lycetts.

Burness Paull & Williamsons has considerable experience in the onshore wind industry, ranging from advising on projects such as the Dykehead Turbine to advising developers, funders, and landowners on multi-turbine large projects (including the development of the 144MW 48-turbine Fallago development in the Scottish Borders, the funding of the acquisition of the 28.6MW Blackhill Wind Farm (also in the Borders) and the £37 million funding for the development of the 16MW Kildrummy Wind Farm in Aberdeenshire).
